Violence breaks out in Uganda’s Capital Kampala


IN UGANDA AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE ARE REPORTED DEAD. THE VIOLENCE BROKE OUT THURSDAY AFTER POLICE PREVENTED A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE TRADITIONAL RULER OF THE BUGANDA ETHNIC GROUP FROM TRAVELING TO A REGION NORTH OF THE CAPITAL. THE BUGANDA TRIBE IS THE LARGEST ETHNIC GROUP IN UGANDA. HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH ACCUSES UGANDAN POLICE OF USING “UNNECESSARY LETHAL FORCE.” UGANDAN OPPOSITION LEADER, MORRIS OGENGA-LATIGO, BLAMES THE VIOLENCE ON PRESIDENT YOWERI MUSEVENI.
