By Paul Ndiho

In Zimbabwe, 40 members of an opposition coalition were recently arrested by the police while actively campaigning for the upcoming elections. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Glenview suburb of Harare, the capital city. According to a police statement shared on social media, the coalition members were detained for engaging in activities not initially mentioned in their notification for a rally in that suburb. It is worth noting that the opposition had previously urged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to address the issue of police interference that disrupts their rallies. Earlier, VOA’s Paul Ndiho spoke to Dr. Chipo Dendere, Assistant Prof of Africana Studies at Wellesley College, a private women’s liberal arts college in Massachusetts. Dr. Dendere is currently in In Cape Town, South Africa.
