DEATH TOLL FROM QUAKE NEARLY 2,500

By Paul Ndiho

Rescuers on Monday searched villages reduced to rubble for survivors in a desperate race against time as the death toll rose to almost 2,500 and the scale of destruction became more apparent. The United Nations estimates that 300,000 people were affected by the magnitude 6.8 quake, made more dangerous by its relatively shallow depth. For a first-hand account of what’s happening on the ground, VOA’s Paul Ndiho, via Skype, spoke to Emmanuel Victoire Ngapela, a freelance Journalist, in Marrakesh, Morocco.
