For the past 26 years, the African Studies and Research Forum (ASRF) has been pivotal in promoting academic discourse and research on the African continent. Each year, ASRF recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to covering African affairs and showcasing its diverse voices. In its latest edition, ASRF had the honor of presenting its prestigious award to Shaka Ssali, a veteran journalist from Voice of America (VOA). Shaka Ssali has been a prominent figure in African journalism, particularly for his remarkable work on VOA’s flagship show, Straight Talk Africa.
