By Paul Ndiho
The Security Council adopted a resolution authorizing Member States to form and deploy a Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti in close cooperation and coordination with the Government of Haiti for twelve months.
Thirteen member states of the Council voted in favor of the resolution, with Russia and China abstaining. The United States and Ecuador wrote the solution. According to this resolution, Kenya will lead a multinational mission at the invitation of Haiti and in response to the appeal by the UN Secretary-General.
