South Africa is gearing up for the May 29 elections, which are projected to be the most competitive since the first democratic elections 1994. In the face of a weak economy and allegations of corruption and mismanagement, recent polls suggest that the African National Congress (ANC) is likely to secure less than 50 percent of the vote for the first time in the history of democracy.
