The former president, known best for his bombast and aggressive rhetoric, began his acceptance speech with a softer and profoundly personal message that drew directly from his brush with death.

Nigerian School Excels at Global Robotics Competition in Dallas, Texas

Robotics competitions are not just events but invaluable learning processes that foster teamwork and 21st-century communication and collaboration skills. These competitions allow students to unleash their creativity, tackle challenges, and collaborate effectively, all while exploring different STEM concepts.
Earlier this year, Glisten International Academy from Abuja, Nigeria, proudly represented the country at the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. The competition featured over 24,000 students from more than 60 countries. I spoke to Abba Saidu, the executive director of Glisten International Academy, who led the robotics team.

UGANDAN STUDENTS COMPETE AT VEX ROBOTIC CHAMPIONSHIP

The African School of Innovations Science and Technology (ASIST) in Kampala, Uganda, nurtures young scientists and innovators through STEM and Robotics education. KENYA – GENZ PROTESTS AGAINST GOVERNMENT

There was a heavy police presence in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, on Tuesday, with riot police patrolling the streets and using tear gas to disperse small groups of protesters. The protests started as an online outpouring of anger over nearly $2.7 billion of tax hikes in a proposed finance bill and have grown into a nationwide movement against corruption. Dozens of Kenyans have been killed in demonstrations and clashes with police since June 18th. Many are demanding that President William Ruto to step down. VOA’s Paul Ndiho spoke to Dr. James Ngundi, an Adjunct Professor of African Studies at Georgetown University, for more perspective.

SOUTH AFRICA’S GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his new government on
Sunday. The ruling ANC lost its outright parliamentary majority,
resulting in former opposition parties receiving 12 out of 32
portfolios.

The African National Congress (ANC), which has governed the country
since the advent of democracy in 1994, retained 20 out of 32 cabinet
positions. The largest coalition partner, the Democratic Alliance (DA),
will hold six portfolios, including home affairs, environment, and
public works. DA leader John Steenhuisen, 48, was appointed Minister of
Agriculture.
