According to the University of Florida Election Lab daily tracker, over 55 million people have participated in early voting so far, either in person or by mail. EARLY VOTING IN WASHINGTON, DC

Early voting in the nation’s Capital, Washington DC, begins today, October 28 through November 3. Residents of the District of Columbia can vote in person before Election Day or choose to vote on Tuesday, November 5. Washington, DC, is home to nearly 700,000 people, and in an election that is too close, the stakes could not be higher, and DC could play a significant role in deciding who becomes the next president of the United States. Zambia Celebrates 60 Years of Independence

On October 24, 1964, Zambia gained independence from British rule and supported other African liberation movements. Zambia’s founding President, Kenneth Kaunda, played a significant role in helping other African nations’ fights for freedom, such as South Africa’s African National Congress ANC and the Southwest Africa People’s Organization SWAPO, which fought for Namibia’s Independence and other African nations. HOW NIGERIANS ARE USING AI

Nigerians use artificial intelligence (AI) in many ways, from personal use to customer service, banking, and education. AI-powered platforms provide students with customized learning experiences and impact multiple industries. Analysts say AI is already here and has changed how we behave and operate. Our technology correspondent, Paul Ndiho, spoke to Mojisola Alabi, a tech entrepreneur and analyst based in Lagos, Nigeria.

TWO SUDANESE CHARGED FOR HACKING U S GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Two Sudanese citizens are facing charges for running a guerrilla computer hacking group called Anonymous Sudan. The group aimed to “declare cyberwar on the United States” by targeting the FBI, government agencies in Alabama, Microsoft, and X through a series of attacks, according to the Justice Department. The group carried out more than 35,000 attacks, with 70 of them targeting the Los Angeles metro area. These actions resulted in more than $10 million in damages in the U.S., as reported last week by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

Ahmed Salah Yousif Omer and Alaa Salah Yusuuf Omer have been charged with conspiracy and computer damage for their coordinated cyberattacks from 2023 to the present year.

ADVOCATING FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the prevalence of autism in Africa is similar to other regions. Still, access to diagnosis and treatment is limited due to challenges such as a shortage of specialized healthcare professionals and resources.

DECODER Health is a non-governmental organization based in the Washington DC area that advocates for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the U.S. and Tanzania. Dr. Annie Lasway, the founder and CEO of DECODER Health, has been at the forefront of debunking stigmas and raising awareness about autism globally, with a specific focus on supporting people with ASD in Tanzania.

USING DATA AND TECH SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE SERVICE DELIVERY

Corus International is a non-governmental organization based in Baltimore, Maryland, operating in 35 countries. It addresses humanitarian and development challenges in Africa and helps local authorities adopt technology to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in resource management and service delivery.

In collaboration with local authorities, Corus International uses ‘Tech for Development’ digital platforms in Sierra Leone and South Sudan to streamline data, eliminate ghost workers, and improve education, healthcare, and public service delivery. SUDAN WAR – WORLD’S LARGEST DISPLACEMENT CRISIS

Since April 2023, a war has been raging in Sudan between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo. The UN reports that over 10 million people, about a fifth of Sudan’s population, have been forced from their homes due to the war. Among them is Sudanese journalist Shakoor Nyaketo, who fled to Qatar via Ethiopia and Kenya. VOA’s Paul Ndiho spoke to Nyaketo about the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

MCC INVESTS OVER $10 BILLION ACROSS 24 AFRICAN COUNTRIES

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. government agency, has invested over $10 billion in programs in 24 African countries. Two-thirds of its portfolio is dedicated to African partner countries committed to good governance and investing in their people.
The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is helping countries seize economic opportunities and fight poverty by delivering clean water, improving transportation, enhancing agriculture, and increasing access to reliable electricity. Last month, MCC signed a $480 million compact to help millions in Sierra Leone access affordable and reliable electricity. Alice Albright, Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), is here in the studio to shed some light on these programs.
