COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE CENTER IN RURAL UGANDA
Nearly 303,000 women die worldwide because of complications of pregnancy and childbirth every year. According to UNICEF’s latest data, in Uganda, Maternal Mortality Rate is one of the highest.
In memory of his mother, who died of childbirth complications, James Musinguzi, a trained lab technician, quit his job and moved back to his village in Kitagwenda District, Western Uganda, to launch a community healthcare center to help women like his mother, who died of childbirth complications.
My colleague Paul Ndiho spoke to James Musinguzi, the founder of Gertrude Memorial Community Center in Kigwenda District.
