Ebola strain explodes past 1,000 cases
The Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda is worsening rapidly, with rising case numbers, expanding geographic spread, and confirmed cross-border transmission. Underscoring the seriousness of the crisis, World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus traveled to Bunia in eastern DRC on May 30 to support on-the-ground response efforts. His visit follows the WHO’s May 17 declaration of the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
