Zambia’s 8.7M voters head to the polls

As Zambia heads to the polls on August 13, over 8.7 million registered voters will cast ballots in a high-stakes general election pitting President Hakainde Hichilema’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) against a consolidated opposition coalition. The election is being conducted under a newly expanded constitutional framework that increases constituency seats and introduces proportional representation for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
