Nearly 1,100 Somali nationals in the U.S. just lost a legal shield they’ve been leaning on for years — and the courts aren’t stepping in to stop it, at least not for now.

U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs lifted the administrative stay that had been holding back the Department of Homeland Security from ending Temporary Protected Status for Somalia. The underlying lawsuit is still alive, but that doesn’t matter much in practice — DHS is now free to move forward while the case drags on.
